Sloop questions.

Two queries for those in the know:

1) How much does your average (average, mind) fishing sloop weigh?

2) What sort of speed could it reasonably (i.e. relatively safely) attain under sail power? If motorized?

Being an expert sailor, I can tell you this:

Weight: Probably in the realm of 45-50 tons, for a typical small one.

Speed under sail: probably, fully crewed and with all sail piled on, with a good wind, probably around 5-6 knots maximum.

Unless you're talking a Grand Banks type fishing schooner, in which case it would probably be about 10-13 knots.
