[Smackdown] Whip-wielder

I thought if you were prone you lost your Dex bonus to AC. No? Hrm.

With regards to the vorpal idea, that's just crazy enough to work. +1 brilliant energy vorpal whip.

I agree that the whip (although cool) is not a very effective weapon. I would suggest taking a feat (or 2 after all you will be a fighter and can spare them) to get really good at a dagger. Yes, a dagger. Get one with the greatest crit range you can find.

Your tactic could be to entangle them and then stab them.

That's something else that's missing for whips: No good rules for tangling people up. Right now, you'd have to grapple them, pin them, and tie them up, which might be realistic, but it'd be much cooler to just lash out with your whip and tie up their arms and legs next to their body.

A vorpal whip sounds excellent.

Being prone gives enemies +4 to hit you with melee attacks, and you suffer a -4 to your own melee attacks. Ranged attacks are either unusable or suffer no penalty, IIRC. You don't lose Dex bonus.

Do bane & wounding properties have to actually hurt the creature in order to kick in? A whip with those enchantments probably wouldn't be that useful, due to the whole "can't penetrate armor" problem.

The elemental/alignment based enchantments are probably the way to go..

Distance is an amusing one, and arguably allowable in 3.0. Probably a no-go in 3.5, though.

Go with a dual wielding kukri fighter. make him a nasty little mo-fo. Of course a dual wielding dagger fighter equipped to do both ranged and melee nastiness would be cool also. But the kukri is just kick ass for flavor and critability. Get improved crit kukri and get one icy burst and one flaming burst. You can even make one viscious and the other spell storing and perhaps get a nice vampiric touch spell put inside to cancel out the viscious damage.
