Smallville 10/29/03- "Perry" *spoilers*

Perry White, career in shambles, working as a tabloid reporter, comes to Smallville to investigate meteor rock strangeness. Meanwhile, a comet strikes the sun, causing a huge solar flare to race towards the earth. Clarks powers go on the fritz.

I haven't seen many smallvilles this season, just my bad luck, but I think this was a good one to jump back into. Good linking with future mythology of Superman. Showed some more of Lex going bad. The solar flare science was a bit wonky, but I'll forgive them that, and the huge solar flare that actually occurred this week was an amusing coincidence for this episode.

Was this the first episode where they linked Clark's powers to the sun? They seemed to be figuring it out as they went. I vaguely remember the ship in the storm cellar imparting some information to him along the lines of "the sun of this system reacts interestingly with your body", but I may be mis-allocating that memory, it may be from one of the old movies or something.

So now we've got Perry White as a probably recurring character. I liked the actor they got for that, he's done SNL, the X-Files, a couple other things, but I can't remember his name.

This is supposed to be what, Clark's senior year? Is this season four of the show? Next year he should be off to college, and after that, the world, mwahahahaha.

That would be Michael McKean (Lenny from Lavern and Shirley) and the husband of Annette O'toole (Mrs. Kent).

Good Episode.

Yes, nothing quite like seeing the man whose body Mulder stole (and danced in) showing up to
fling
himself
off
a
cliff
.

And is it just me, or is the theory that "Chloe --> Chlois --> Lois --> Lois Lane" gaining some strength.

Whose theory is that? Her last name is Sullivan (courtesy IMDB), so unless she's going to marry some guy named Mr Lane, redo her first name, and dye her hair brunette, that could be hard to pull off. Plus, isn't the canonical superman story that he met Lois in college?

I like the theory I read here earlier that something bad is bound to happen to Chloe, and then when a certain Lois of similar personality shows up in college, Clark will latch on to her.

Smallville started in 2001, so I think this is the third season, making them juniors probably. Or did they start the series when they were all sophomores and not freshmen? Bah.

Yes, I know that Clark is supposed to hook up with Lois in college, and drop Lana - but every time I see one of those end scenes this season with him and Lana, I can't help but think that he is a :):):):):) :):):):)ing rock. He's DUMB as a STONE!

Duh! Superman = Lawful Stupid.

Actually, I have to say that I like how they are characterizing Clark in Smallville. Very straight-laced, but not too uptight. But, you're quite right, Henry, when it comes to Lana, Clark's a vegitable.

Speaking about Lana, Lois, etc., does anyone know what they're planning to do with the show long term? Is Clark going to go off to college, etc. or will they end the show? Obviously, it can't exist in Smallville forever (renamed "Metropolis"?), but has there been any hints about a long-term vision?

Oh, and I'm quite well aware that ratings may well (and probably will) be the deciding factor for the show's run. I'm talking in a ratings-free vaccuum.

According to Kryptonsite the producers are hoping to take the show into college but will end it before going to metropolis.

My only problem with this episode is the bus stop is outside of Smallville. The only bus stops outside of any Kansas' town is for school buses. I have rode on several Kansas' buses and none of them stop outside of any town. They go to bus stations and if the town is too small for a bus station then it usally partnered up with a antoher buinsess. My hometown's Dairy Queen is the local bus stop.
