SMALLVILLE #21:Finale/FINAL SEASON--2011

Yeah, Smallville Lois was one of the very few things about the show that was good. Pairing her up with Clark was always entertaining, where Lana almost never was. And even on her own, she had some very good moments.
Yup. This may have had something to do with Erica Durance and Tom Welling being about the same age, while Kristen Kruek is somewhat younger than them.

Or maybe the producers really had no clue what to do with her -- just look at some of the goofy story arcs she ended landing in.

Lois OTOH was always doing something crazy and getting into trouble, but it was entertaining. There were always some elements that were reminscent of Kidder's portrayal of Lois, but Smallville Lois didn't come off as klutzy or ditzy.

I think Kristin Kreuk's character was a victim of the writers. Watch the last episode of the first season, then the first episode of the second season. The entire tone changes. Clearly the writers chose to emphasize trust, secrets, lies, and betrayal. While that worked well with Clark and Lex, it became incredibly tedious with Lana. (It didn't help that they never really figured out how to stop writing her character as a victim.) The writers found a way for Chloe and Clark to get past their issues, but they never did that with Lana.

When Lois came in (initially as a part-time character), she was a breath of fresh air. While Clark and Lana was always about angst, Clark and Lois was about opposites attracting.

I am perhaps in the minority but I really, really disliked Lois for many seasons. It's only been the last two where I found her to be at all likable.
