Snake Ring Art? :)

Kryndal Levik

First Post
I'm planning on introducing a ring (magic item) into my campaign, and would love to have some artwork for it. For those that have read Piers Anthony's "Incarnations of Immortality" series, the ring is based on Sning, the snake ring from that series. The ring, based on the description, is simply a snake eating its own tail (in inanimate form). I've found plenty of "real-life" examples of such a ring (seem to be relatively common in gothic circles), but would like to find an illustration or sketch... Anyone have any ideas?

What you are describing it called an Ouroboros. Here is an excellent site with information and pictures from throughout history:
http://www.crystalinks.com/ouroboros.html

I did a search for ouroboros at images.google.com and found over 3,000 results, so you may be able to find something useful there, or maybe one of our fine artists here will draw one up for you in more of a D&D style :D

Thanks- I wasn't familiar with that term! I further restricted the search to "Ouroboros ring," and came up with something pretty close to what I was looking for:

I'll look through the broader results on Google, but that will do for now. Thanks again for your help!

Heh. I think I got a copy of the ring you chose out of a vending machine for $0.25 when I was a kid.

I always suspected it was magical... :)
