can rogues sneak attack undead in 4th edition. i can't find anything in the rules about it. i wouldn't ask, but in this edition undead have that "critical weakness" and that is different than in the past. can anyone find a specific ruling?

One good piece of advice is to totally disregard anything you knew about 3.5 when you start playing 4E, its a completely different game. Rogues can sneak attack anything in 4E, just as you can crit anything and so on. The few monsters that can't have something done to them will have this very specifically listed.

Unless a monster's description says otherwise, rogues can sneak attack any creature. Unlike 3.x, undead, constructs, elementals, etc, are no longer immune to critical hits and sneak attacks. If a creature has such an immunity, it will say so in its description.

i'm afraid you're right. i don't like it though. the rogue in my game is doing all the freaking damage. he can sneak attack almost every round

deft strike + sneak attack (d8s) + str = what does the fighter do?

Fighters defend

Which is to say: they are really difficult to get around. as Roy once said in OOTS: "Standing in front of other people 101"

Which is not to say thats all a fighter can do, just that, under most circumstances, he will be doing a little less damage than some of his buddies.

Stop the monster from killing him?

The fighters "new" job is to dont let the monsters kill your allies, while doing damage, but that is secondary, his role is defender after all. The rogue is a striker, so he does do more damage.

Mezzer advice is good, stop looking things as they would be in 3e. Try to look the new game with few preconceptions and them compare it to older the editions.

oh i know. but it is hard.

Dogpile!

Really though. The fighter's job has been narrowed into the defender role. Yes he can still do a bit of damage especially with encounter and daily powers, but he's not going to outdo the strikers from round to round.
