sneak attack

i'm afraid you're right. i don't like it though. the rogue in my game is doing all the freaking damage. he can sneak attack almost every round
Good for him, but if some of those sneak attacks come from flanking with the fighter then the fighter is doing his job. Especially if the fighter marks the target to keep the rogue safe.

oh i know. but it is hard.
Maybe at times, but once you get over it, you start to enjoy the game more. :)

Oh, and the fighter can lay down the smack pretty hard when push comes to shove, as can most people, but its not his primary job anymore, whereas it is for the rogue.

I had an interesting moment during our last session, I was DMing and we started a new party. We wanted to try and have each of the roles in the party this time around, so one of the players chose to play a Warlord to fill in the Leader niche. I was very pleasantly surprised when he had fun playing it, and actually trying work out how to get the best out of his abilities by working off of other people's abilities, even though the Warlord is totally different from any character he usually likes to play.

The fighter has some nice close attack powers that lets him attack everybody standing next to him. Around level 7 he should be able to attacks 2-4 targets two+ times every encounter. (Come and get it, Sweeping blow).

Did I mention Come and get it (level 7 encounter power) being the power that MAKES the fighter? ;)

It lets you draw enemies in close burst 3 to you and hit them. It is not like they will be moving away afterwards... ;) When you then follow it up with a few more close burst attacks you can really rack up the damage and fulfill your role.
