Sneak in the Attack with powers that don't deal damage...

First Post
The Rogue uses Sneak in the Attack -- "Effect: Until the start of your next turn, the next ally who hits the target and has combat advantage against it deals extra damage against it equal to your Sneak Attack damage." -- against an enemy.

The next ally with combat advantage to hit the target uses a power that deals no damage.

Does the ally get to deal the extra damage granted by Sneak in the Attack, and what type of damage would it be?

'extra damage' always requires 'damage'. There's some rule about it (check PHB in the 270ish range), but it's the same one that has critical hits not doing damage and damage bonuses (armbands, etc) not applying to non-damaging attacks.

That's what I thought too, but...

There's a mention of "An attack that does not deal damage still does not deal damage on a critical hit." in the Magic Items section of the book where it talks about bonus damage on criticals from magical weapons and implements, but I couldn't find anything else anywhere else.

It's in Player's Handbook 2 in the Appendix for Rules Updates:

PHB 2 page 221 said:
Many effects grant you the ability to deal extra damage, including powers, feats, and magic item properties. Extra damage is always in addition to other damage. For example, if you have a feat that causes your area attacks to deal extra damage, the extra damage doesn't apply when you use an area attack that deals no damage, such as the wizard's sleep power.

What is an ally?

What I want to know is with the ability sneak in the attack are you considered an ally? This could make my rogue so productive if he applied sneak in the attack before one Of his own attacks.

You are not your own ally.

See: Powers that say "...you or an ally..."/"...you and all allies..."
