Torgo and Endrin were originally played by two newbies that I ran through the beginner's box set to start with. This set mostly consists of one to three room adventures that gradually introduce different rules into the game. At the end is a moderate 26 room dungeon crawl through a dwarven fortress that has been attacked by a young red dragon and goblinoids. The red dragon has flown off by the time the PC's get there and they have only the task of wiping out the goblins (plus a few surprises, like a displacer beast).
These two managed to survive the whole box and were pretty into it by then, so they played on. Continuing the story from the box, they returned to find their home town ravaged by the dragon as well. Tracking it to its lair with the aid of a lizardfolk druid and his pet python, Torgo cleaved his way through the dragon and a horde of goblins while Endrin provided covering fire. Sadly, neither the druid nor his snake survived the dragon.
All of this was played at work. See, I work in a call center and back then had a Sunday shift that was absolutely dead (maybe 3 10 minute calls in an 8 hour shift). We had played Risk, Monopoly, etc... way too many times and needed a new distraction, so the Sunday D&D games were born. The last time we played, Dungannon had come in to pull some easy overtime and joined the game, Ike crossing paths with the pair in their journeys once they left the dragon's lair.
The game ended mainly due to me getting a regular M-F shift. Sadly, Torgo and Endrin's players didn't stick with D&D once they couldn't play at work, but when Dungannon and I cooked up a PBEM to get Ike's story and level caught up to everyone else's, I sent these two along as NPC's to keep him company.
