So... 3.5 is done in Dragon and Dungeon

We're still accepting article submissions for D&D v3.5 (or GURPS, or Savage Worlds, or Cyberpunk, or any game system!) in the Knights of the Dinner Table magazine.

For interested writers, the KoDT submission guidelines can be downloaded HERE or included with the free promotional issue #132 (PDF).

Is there a limit for how much longer that'll be true? You guys don't use an OGL in KoDT, so I wonder if printing D&D articles in KoDT is part of the agreement you have with WotC that let's you make Kalamar and HackMaster products...an agreement that is supposed to be ending soon (I think).

On a related note, are HackMaster submissions still being accepted?

Our license agreement with Wizards ended months ago. That stops us from using the D&D logo and reprinting chunks of their books, but it doesn't affect articles or our Kingdoms of Kalamar line. An article should be the author's original material and not directly reprint D&D rules, of course, but that's pretty much it. Articles are written for use with D&D and similar fantasy game systems.

Heck, there's a new D&D article in issue #138, and we've put out several print and PDF products since the end of the license.

If it helps, here's an analogy - you could write an article for a computer magazine about a particular program and its good (or bad) points, or how to make tweaks to the coding or install a new program that works with it. That doesn't mean that you've suddenly put a claim on the program's copyright, as long as you don't reprint large chunks of code or pass yourself off as the program's creators/owners.

Definitely.

Luckly there are now literally TONS of 3.5 material that keep dropping in price as time goes by.

True dat.

While I don't have a FLGS, prices are dropping due to stockpiles and lack of sales, and - I suspect - will continue to drop. I haven't seen this on amazon.com yet - unless a $19 PHB is already discounted (?).

Those who are staying 3.5 are likely to find some extra ducats in their wallets. A good thing.

I'm not sure how well Dragon Roots is selling, but it's one small press alternative that I know of. And it's actually in print, which would put it ahead of 'Dragon', or what has become of that, at least to me and quite a few other gamers.
Dragon Roots premiere issue sold better than expected and our next issue is right around the corner. As the publisher, I find myself wanting to print in current trends, that means 4e, however, I also WILL print just about anything D&D related. I have many, many articles that I wrote for 3.5 and even some for AD&D and they will find a place in print in the future.

If you have an idea for a submission for any edition please feel free to contact me at c.e.rocco@comcast.net for submission guidelines.

Oh, yes, we are first and foremost a print magazine but we do sell pdf versions too, which you can buy at paizo.com and soon to be sold at YGN.com

On Amazon, you have to check out the Amazon Marketplace.

Look under the "Amazon Buy" button for "More Buying Choices" for Used bookstores that also have that book for sale. I have got a few books for .01, welll and $3.99 S&H ;)

I have been picking up the print versions of all the Malhavoc books that I had in pdf, mostly from GoHastings, but I have had no problems with any of them an all have been in "Like New" condition.

I just saw the update on Wizards' website that they're not accepting submissions for the 3.5 ruleset any longer. Of course they'll have the stuff they need for the next issue, but now I guess 3.5 is truly history when it comes to official support...

THANK GOODNESS. Time to turn my 3.5 over to someone who will show a little backbone with it, like, oh I don't know. Maybe...PAIZO or SINISTER.

Great tip on amazon.com marketplace. Sometimes I miss the most obvious links.

Brand New 3.5 PHB down to $15.36.

Not bad, not bad. Still probably not the best time to buy, though.

A bit ironically, despite WotC saying they won't be putting 3.5 content in Dragon anymore, there's a brand new 3.5 article up there now, about epic Binders. I'm quite happy to see it. :)
Oh, WotC will still put out a few more 3.5 articles, they're just not accepting any new 3.5 submissions. So, we'll see a few more articles they have in the pipelines, then once that dries up it'll be all 4e all the time!

And why would WotC do anything else? No backbone? No, just brains (or one giant green brain in a tank).

The binder article was pretty cool, although the new vestiges don't really seem all the more epic than the original set in Tome of Magic. But still a nice article.

It seems there a whole lot of alternatives out there. I have to check them out, and yes Nicolas, you Sinister Adventures sure look very creepy (in the good way) :)
