So, Claudio, what do you store YOUR paper counters in? (Not just for Claudio)

I use cardholder sheets that go in 3-ring binders, the kind you put baseball cards in. I sort the monsters by the types (close to those used in the MM).

I put them in the same binder I put my DM notes in. I have the PC counters in another binder, this one for players, that has photocopies of the prestige classes that I have liked out of dragon.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the dime bags. I usually use Ziplock Snack-size bags to hold counters. You can also take a Ziplock Sandwich bag, cut off the bottom, and retape it to a smaller size.

Tip: Assign a player (or two) the task of getting the counters. Keeps the GM from slowing the game down by looking for them.

I think I will check a little deeper on the dime-bag issue, but they are extremely hard to find in my area. (I took the "drug use thing" at face value from a friend, but in hindsight I think he was "handing me a line." :)

Also check your phone book for a coin collector store. They always have these nice little bags that you need. Some jewelry stores do too.

PLastic Worm Binders

Go to the fishing area of your walmart, or if you have a Bass Pro even better, and grab a rubber worm binder. It is a zip-up binder full of little plastic bag that you can leaf through for just the right "bait" - Very convenient to throw in a book bag as well.

One of the things you can find in arts & crafts stores is match-boxes. They work pretty well for counters. Get a larger box for carrying *those* in. Small clear envelopes work just as well (used in postage stamp collecting). Small hand made envelopes if you find to have an extra hour a day would also be another way of going about it.

Ummm... it might be a bit of effort, but have you considered making your own boxes? I've done this on a number of occasions for various things that don't quite fit conventional storages items available. I'd recommend either two methods -

* build completely from scratch. Use heavy guage ply cardboard that can be bought from a hobby store or canabalised from packing boxes. Use a sharp hobby knife, heavy duty packing tape for holding corners together and strong glue for making joins. Since I've done balsa modelling in the past, I already had a lot of this stuff around the house.

* Alternatively, find a box that is generally sized to fit your needs, and use the heavy duty cardboard to fit compartments. This is a bit quicker and easier, but you have to be lucky to find something that fits the size you want... check out gift stores that sell greeting cards and wrapping paper (they usually have variously sized boxes for holding gifts).

In both instances, some strips of velcro can be used as the locking mechanism for the lid. A cheap can of thick spray paint from your local hardware store can be used to finish the job and cover up all the messy joins (if you use several coats, the paint itself can help give the box some extra strength).

As I said before, I've done this on a number of occasions for storing those unusual hobby items that don't quite seem to 'fit' conventional storage devices available.

For my RttToEE campaign I already had all the monster stats printed on large index cards. I finally found a bunch of the small ziplock bags at a Michael's I was in. I took all the monsters of a type, put them in a baggie & slid it in the same slot of it's appropriate monster card.

We've seen a number of things proposed to us, and most of them are mentioned in this thread. Acro-Mils makes a great plastic box for holding the smaller pieces (like 1x1s and 1x2s). We've yet to find a perfect box for holding each of the different size pieces. Believe me, we have looked and looked and looked some more! Im sure Jason and the guys at Fiery Dragon have too. We're considering stocking the ones from Acro-Mils for sale on our online website, but we're worried it would cause all kinds of additional headaches with shipping.

If people really endorse getting the little baggies I think we here at Dragon Scale Counters would be happy to stock them. Maybe we could talk rpgshop into stocking them too. They arent expensive to buy, but as far as I know the only way to get them is a) finding them at the local craft store or b) buying them in boxes of 1000 (which is how we get our 4x6 packages). Obviously, no one person needs 1000 poly bags. For any of you gluttons of punishment who want to buy 1000 bags you can do so by going to www.papermart.com. Im sure there are tons of other places, thats just where we bought ours.

While we're on the subject of counters, do the people reading this thread have any extra counters left over from an odd product mix that they won't ever use? Any counters ruined (and yet for whatever reason not yet thrown away)? Dragon Scale Counters is also considering buying these counters for credit. Would such a program be well received, or would it be just too much of a bother to mail them in?

M. Jason and Eric, thanks for the info! Jason, there is a numismatist (is that spelled right?) in my area, and Eric, the prices for the bags on the web site are reasonable.

One question: for the bags mentioned, doe you know if the length and width mentioned is in inches (I assume)? Or cm? or what?
