D&D 5E So... Got any Creative Commons Maps or Mapping Software?

One of the biggest problems I can see to the DMGuild project is mapping; good maps are hard to find, good maps that are free to use, publish, and modify are nigh-impossible. WotC is generous in giving us a handful of free maps (culled from the old Map-a-Week archives) but 20 or so maps aren't going to go very far. (It'd be nice if WotC opened the entire 3e-era MaW archive to DMGld use, but I digress). So with that in mind, does anyone know of any place where people can either find decent premade maps that can be used/published OR some decent mapping software than can create images of maps for publication for the less-than-artistically inclined?

Any help would be appreciated.

Artwork and maps will definitely be the the standard that separates the wheat from the chaff.

Opening up old archives may help initially, for a few folks, but once used, what then? will everyone be running a scenario using MaW_XX?

In consideration, depending on the seriousness of the attempt, or the ability of the person writing and designing the supplement, I'd say to petition an artist. Purchase the piece outright, or on a commission of sales. Or partner up with one

the best place to look for software and artists for maps would probably be The Cartographer's Guild
