So, has everyone pretty much given up on Smallville?

No reason. I can't remember the exact lines, but it was something along the lines of
"Hey, Kal, where's your cape?"
"Cape?"
And that was it. Implication being it's in his future.
That's one implication. There's also the implication that those missing elements that we and the Legion regard as integral--the cape, the tights, the "disguise" offered by his glasses--can be chalked up to the way legends get distorted and exaggerated. Thus, the Smallville Kal-El is the "real" article, while the comic book character is a colorful reinterpretation.

Well, I suppose you could interpret it that way - is that how you understood the line at the time?

I tend to prefer the simplest, most obvious explanation. But yes, your interpretation isn't contradicted by the line.

Smallville = garbage. I dumped it a couple of years ago when Lana become just far too annoying, and I realized I wasn't interested in Smallville 90210.

Now with that bit of vitriol out of the way, once I heard Lana was gone and this was (supposedly) the last season I decided to watch some of this season every now and then, and it is markedly better than the last few years. Of course, after dumping one obnoxious bitch (Lana), they introduce a brand new obnoxious bitch (Lexcorp chick), so I sometimes wonder what they're thinking... So it's still crap, but it's better crap - enough so that getting a Justice League episode makes suffering through the other episodes worth it. And again, with no Lana (her lame guest appearance notwithstanding), the show is much more watchable.

But now they might try to extend to yet another season? *sigh*

...
So, anybody else watching?

I've been watching this thing since the beginning. There have been a lot of times I've almost given up but I keep coming back.

I think the show had gotten a lot more interesting with the addition if the DCU characters. It is getting to the point where Supes needs to don the tights and do some flights.

There are some shows (like this and the late Stargate Atlantis) that really don't need a post for each episode. They're meant to be fun viewing which doesn't lend itself to discussions. Particularly ones examining mysteries or searching for deeper meanings like Lost or BSG.

Meh. I find some of the earlier comic-book version of Lana far more annoying. She was like Chloe, a best friend who have a crush on Clark, minus the journalist with an eye for the strange.

The first three seasons were so great, and since then, yes, the quality has not been as good for some reason. There have been a number of good episodes in each season but no really great seasons since then. I was keenly feeling the absence of Lex and Lana this season - I know a lot of people don't like Lana but I do and I thought their triangle worked well for the show. I also feel like there are unresolved things in that triangle and I hope they get to deal with those before the end. I don't feel the spark between Clark and Lois that is supposedly growing this season. I did enjoy the most recent episode - a lot of good questions there, and funny (I thought) statements about an "audience of the future" and their demands on Clark's destiny.

This... I stopped watching by season 2. All the hopes for a cool superman series had vanished by then. I'm not sure but I don't think he they'd even given him the costume yet. (Does he have it even now?)

So what season are we on now?

I can't believe how much its getting bashed here. I don't watch it, as I never even got into it; but if this attitude is reflective of a lot of people I'm surpridsed that it has been cancelled by now.

I gave up on the show about a third of the way through the 6th season, and this after being a faithful viewer since it's launch. For me, it just got the point that watching the show felt more like a chore when I could instead be doing something else I enjoyed doing. Personally I though Season 6 should have been when they ended it to avoid wearing out their welcome, but it seems there's talks about doing an 8th season, dependent on whether Tom Welling agrees to come back. His contract only went up to the current season, while Rosenbaum and Kruek only went until last season; reason Lana is showing up for a few episodes is the actress missed those number of episodes last season and is essentially doing "make up time."

That said, I'll probably pick up the latest DVD season sets once they go on sale at Amazon (already have 1 thru 5).
