So, if a dragon swallows someone carrying a lot of potions....

I'd personally say no the dragon wouldn't gain the benefit. If I make a stew with healing potion, do I have healing stew, or is the potion's effect ruined by it intermingling with the other stuff I ate?

Heh, 2nd ed had a quick remedy for this question.. aah the old potion miscability tables. Both a blessing -and- a curse.

^_^

Those are the only 2E rules that I still use. Nothing like having potions explode in a PC's stomach.

I think what I will do when I meet a dragon in game is to stock up on explosives and acid ahead of time, and when the dragon show up, I jump down his throat, sticking the explosives in his throat and lite the fuse(if it's not a red), and proceed to activate my rod of security.:)

next time the dragon uses his breath weapon, kaboomka, gaping hole in throat. :D

another fun idea= get a few immovable rods and chuck 'em down the gaping maw of the next dragon you run into. Should have some amusing results.:p

A player did that in a game I ran once. They were playing out a historical battle in a kind of dream-sequence/flashback. They were fighting a nigh-epic great wyrm black dragon with sorcerer levels, and losing (they were a mixed bag of heroes, circa 15th level). The bard, with a Legend Lore roll, remembered that the historical bard was swallowed whole by the dragon, and never seen again. So he taunted the gragon, got eaten, and with his dying breath, activated the rods. The colossal thing was pinned in midair by its' throat. It was icky.

To veer slightly back on track, I had the rods make item saving throws against the DC of the dragon's acid, to see how long they pinned him for. I'd probably do something similar with the potions; make a save for each potion. If it fails, it's destroyed, to no effect. If it makes the save, the dragon could be effected by the potion. What the DC for the save would be, I dunno.

Would this apply to any creature with the Swallow Whole ability? If a purple worm swallows an adventurer with a potion of levitation, do you wind up with a floating purple worm? Interesting thought...
