So... is anyone else coming around?

So I was kind of irritated with Eladrin, Tieflings and Dragonborn in the PHB and my beloved Gnomes being pushed aside. The possibility that some classes will be abandoned for new, shiny classes like Warlock and Warlord.

And I would still like to see everything that was in the 3.X phb appear in the 4e phb. And that's probably not going to happen. But what has been coming down the pipeline lately has made me feel better about 4e.

it isn't like I wasn't going to buy it before now, but I am feeling better about 4e now. Is anyone else feeling like they would like to "change sides" and start getting excited about 4e?

Heh, take your post and exchange the positives and negatives. I was liking more of what I was hearing at first (well, not the day it was announced, what a mess that was), but now, I'm less sure. Part of that, I'm sure, is how they are choosing to release the info. It's both iritating and confusing.

But, like you, I'm going to check it out when it comes out. If I likey, great. If not, ah well.

the halflings as having kender tendencies is a big turn off.

For me, kender tendencies are much more interesting than hobbit tendencies. But I always change the flavor text for my campaigns anyway. From what I've seen, 4e flavor text has a much greater likelihood of being incorporated in my next campaign than the flavor text from any previous version of the rules.

I will have to change the Eladrin text to remove references to fey. My eladrin will be more akin to minbari.

I was opposed to Dragonborn until a poster here drew a connection between them and RQ Dragonewts. Now I have reworked my next homebrew to replace Serpentfolk with Dragonborn (and to allow them as a PC race).

The Tiefling flavor text has caused me to write a much bigger place for them in my next campaign.

It's still way too early to get excited, one way or another, about 4E. We have <1% information, >99% speculation, rumor, hyperbole, etc.

Based on what I *know*, I'm completely neutral.

If anything the more I hear the less I like it, don't expect that to change unless when I get the book in hand I find the marketing was hugely off the mark.
