I just remembered my time at the helm as this weird whirlwind of "busy busy busy" and constantly updating things and juggling 50 e-mails a day and stuff like that. A lot of fun, but a lot of work. I didn't have a lot of the features EN World now has (for example: a message board! at least for quite a while) that might either ease the burden or create a whole new type of work that I never had to deal with. I was just curious how Russ's experience has compared to mine thus far.

"The Rocky theme song will be played continously".

AWESOME!

I imagine that it's easier -- even if only for the simple fact that we have a content management system which means that an html page doesn't have to be reuploaded constantly (although, as I recall you observed years ago, it doesn't allow for nearly the same flexibility of presentation, which I regret at times).

Also, of course, I have help. Right now we have me, Glyfair, and Joshua Randall n the 4E stuff, with Red Moon Games handling the d20 stuff.

One big difference - "Anonymous" seems to have gone into retirement. Where are you, Anonymous?

Good to hear you're having fun with it!

Is there anything that constantly comes up and you go "gah, no, not that again?" For me (and this was after release) -- the Conversions Library. I would get a pile of those and just cringe at having to open them, check them a bit, rename them, make links to them. I didn't have an automated upload/sumission system, I just filed them all by hand. It was a chore I grew to hate. :D

Anyone getting on your case about any of this 3E/4E rivalry business or anything else? An example from my era: I recall that I had FLGS owners e-mail me and suggesting I should take down all of my Amazon.com affiliate links because I was doing them a disservice. That wasn't fun.

Not really - at least not yet. I think the thing I disliked the most was the d20 news stuff, because it got so samey. I think the thing I find worst is when I get emails from people reporting a news scoop that's already on the news page; I always feel guilty having to tell them that, because they're usually being really helpful.

Nah. I'm sure it'll happen, but I haven't had anything like that happen in a long time. WotC are being really good, and really friendly, and I think Scott Rouse is doing a fantastic job - and putting up with some real crap from people.

I think the thing that usually gets my goat is when people are rude, a moderator steps in, and they're not man enough to say "fair cop - I was being rude", but instead have to start shouting about how they're being censored, and how people aren't "allowed" to not like 4E, etc. They just don't get it - I don't give a gnat's ass what people like or don't like, as long as they're polite about it.

That's the only thing bugging me recently, although I guess it's not a new thing.

I see a lot of Highway Patrol officers (and sometimes city police) on the Interstate just before a big college football game. Are you also beefing up your own law enforcement efforts on the way to 4th edition? Providing special flame/"threadcrap" counter-measures? Maybe hiring Blackwater security forces?
