So, the Demon Wars sourcebook is out. Anybody seen it yet?

OK, I'm wary of any FFE product(I haven't had luck with them; yeah, I'll leave it tactful like that.), but I really like the books, and the gem magic would be awesome, assuming that they don't screw it up. So now the obvious question that must be asked is:
Did FFE Screw It Up?

Replied over here, so as not to keep hijinking the other thread. :)

Yes; you haven't seen it(Demon Wars) yet, Terraism, have you?
Nope, but I don't *have* a FLGS, though, and I've been offline for so long I haven't had much chance. Even so, truth be told, I'm not quite sure what it is.

It's a sourcebook for Salvatore's *other* fantasy book(the one without Drizz'l). It's a very cool world(I actually have to take the books out of the library again and read all the way through them), and I once tried to work out how to do the gem-based magic from the books on my own, I want to see FFE's take on it though. If it's a good book, I'll definitely come on here and hail FFE.

I'd thought it sounded familiar - I've seen the books from time to time, but I kinda burnt out on Salvatore after his FR stuff. I heard those were better, but I've always managed to find things I had more faith in. :)

Of all the FF products I've seen thus far, it's perhaps one of their tightest books...much better production values, and RA Salvatore and his sons had a considerable amount of influence on writing the book, so it should be fairly true to his vision.

Of course, I'm also doing some freelance work on the line, but it's something that I'm not afraid of putting my name to.

This is good to hear. I'm a big DemonWars fan and had heard some iffy things about FF, so I'm relieved to learn that the sourcebook looks good.

Wary of the FFE brandname. But I'm not a hater :)

Just wanted to say that I've been collecting the latest Demonwars release, which are about 6-8 issues old, but I haven't got a chance to read them yet :-/

Earlier this week I saw it in my local game store. I didn't do more than quickly thumb through the book, so I can't comment on mechanics, system, etc.

1) It's hardback. To me, this is a big minus. Something like this I'll only occasionally use, I don't want to pay the premium for a hardcover for something I'll browse through for ideas.

2) It's not very thick. This ties in with #1. A thin hardcover book is an even worse value for my money.

3) Production values look good. The layout seems easily readable and it looks like finding things won't be too hard.

4) The art seems well above the earlier product from FFE.

5) Fiction. There is a short story in the book. This gives me mixed emotions. I like the books and would enjoy a short story set in the world. However, I'm not sure I'll like it in a gaming product.

6) Summary: The book also contains a summary of the novels (at least the originals). Again mixed, but not really any bad. I don't really need it, having read the novels, but someone who hasn't read them all but wants to run in the world could use them.
