So..um..how's that GSL coming along?

my suspicion is that since the quarterly earnings report is coming up monday for hasbro, and since right around the last time the report came out is the time when people got laid off and the dnd myspace thingy got cancelled, i would guess that if there is any bad news around the corner, it will be announced soon, like in the next week or so. whether wotc considers the gsl even worthy of mentioning in a press release or web posting along with the good or bad news is another question. whether wotc's dnd division even gets a mention affirming its existence during the hasbro conference call is still another question.

IANAL, but as I understand it the GSL applies to publishers only. Fans should be able to do pretty much what ever they want, as long as they don't sell it. Now, I know there is supposed to be a 'fan web-site' document in the works, but I'm not sure how they can restrict what goes on 'behind closed doors', so to speak.

Behind closed doors, sure they can't do much about. But that doesn't cover posting such a conversion online. And not selling it doesn't mean that you aren't violating copyright or trademark laws.

Now clearly I don't expect lawsuits. Really what I want is the rules so that I can do conversions within those rules, rather than having to do it one way, then having to go back and do it another.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a 4E hater. . .

I'm really sad at the entire D&D state of affairs. For the last 12 months we have been bombarded with promo material telling us such things as the fun is finally being put back into D&D. Um, okay.

Now, we get a product which seems to be full of errors, not entirely complete, and way beyond deadline. Not to mention that the whole online fiasco is, well, a fiasco.

I hope Hasbro announces some real WotC management shake ups. I don't mean another round of cost-cutting terminations, but rather an installation of folks who can set expectations, release product on time and with quality, and communicate this effectively. Scotty, that means sayonara to you and your band of misfits.

Nothing personal, dude, but that's how Wall St. works. Behold! I am a HAS shareholder - I am your boss, and I am not happy.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by full of errors, but with the exception of the stealth rules and the skill DC/page 42 stuff, there haven't been but the expected number of mistakes. And certainly WotC has met most deadlines on products, with the exception of the online material. As to the completeness, it depends on what you mean, but as a shareholder, I'd think you'd be glad that the company was giving itself a way to make more products.

The ball is in my court and it has been for weeks. I have to get this out and until recently finding the time has been the issue. Not much has happened since I last reported anything here but it is now something that will get my attention.

The changes to the license are done but it is the SRD that needs the most attention. I would like to add clarity to the who define and redefine issue.

If you have questions feel free to call or email me like other publishers do (Clark and I spoke for an almost hour yesterday for example). I am not going to post these to a public forum but I will PM them to you.

Bottom line, not ready yet and I'll take the blame for it.

WOO-HOO!

That "Woo-Hoo" by the way, is for "someone who has a face and who gives a damn actually has it." :)

"overworked" I can take. "Lost in Legal" is something that makes me sad. Good deal, Scott - I hope to hear the announced revisions soon, and hopefully it will give some more publishers the assurances needed to produce some compatible material for it.
