So Vig is writing Haven d20...

...and the thought of a city my "Blood and Fists" and "Blood and Guts" can call home sounds great.

Now if they just had an artist who could do kind of a Frank Miller "Sin City" thing, they'd be all set.

Good luck, Chuck.

Yes I am, and I think it's going to be a great setting for d20 Modern.

If possible I will give you guys my usual sneak peeks along the way. :)

Looking over at the Haven website...Mr. Porter doesn't seem real enthused about the d20 Modern conversion, does he? I mean, other than the money.

And he still considers his original ads for Haven...which bad-mouthed d20 Modern...clever strategy.

It seems to me that a less negative approach from Mr. Porter might make this setting more successful. He has done nothing so far to endear himself to d20 Modern players...now he wants our money. Well, you might get more if you'd quit talking down to us, Lou.

Having said that...I trust that Vig will come through on this project.

Yeah, nice. Chuck's enthusiasm for the game transfers to his writing style making for a fun read (in the three books I own by him). I'm sure this will be no exception. I have a 5 man playtesting group which I can put at your disposal if you need adult playtesters that lean towards a slightly more roleplay-heavy approach to the game.

Cheers!

Everyone interested in playtesting should contact Mr. Porter. I only have writing duties on this one and don't want to overstep my bounds, leaving editing, art, layout, and playtesting in his capable hands.

I am strictly writing and marketing on this one (which I consider part of my writing duties- yes I'm insane).

I would respectfully disagree slightly with your interpretation of Louis' comments.

Here's my take. While he and I have never directly discussed his past feelings toward d20 Modern, and I have not bothered to look up what he said about the game in the past (cause it just doesn't interest me that much, I live in the NOW I want the NEW rants lol) my sense of the comments on his site (which he repeated here at ENWorld I believe) had more to do with:

1) How he felt the game was marketed, oriented toward a "D&D Modern" theme rather than a "d20 Modern theme".

2) How he perceived a lack of staying power by WOTC toward any game that was not D&D or Pokemon or Magic (he mentions Alternity- anyone remember that?).

Now Louis may have had the chutzpah to say these things publically, for which he has received some heat (and continues to) but I can tell you from talking to people far and wide both players and those "in the industry" that he is *far* from the only person I have seen make those comments.

There is a reason why RPGObjects and The Game Mechanics were the only companies to jump into the breach and be the crash test dummies for awhile, a trickle of product that has steadily increased (yes there were exceptions- but I stand by the statement that only two companies immediately stepped up with actual *product lines*).

1) It took some designers awhile to catch onto the game's potential (vast imo) to handle modern situations that did not involve fireballs and gnoll pimps.

2) WOTC's support of the game will determine, to a large extent, the game's market visibility. Some companies waited just to make sure it wasn't going to fall off the radar immediately.

Notice how each of these two facts (representing the behavior of various companies) ties into what I feel are Louis' two core arguments? By the actions taken by various players in the market place a careful obvserver can deduce that other people *feel* what Louis *said*.

Having said that...I trust that Vig will come through on this project.

I thank you for the vote of confidence. I did not share that confidence I wouldn't have accepted Louis' offer (ok the idea that he considered me to meet his PR promise of a "premiere d20 Modern designer" played into it too... and the money).

*This has been a test of the Honesty Alert system. If there had been an actual emergency you would have heard a message from your local law enforcement agencies containing honesty. Federal law requires that we test the Honesty Alert system monthly*

Hmmm. While I don't care what he says about d20 Modern, I have to admit, I am a bit irked at him calling George Washington a "terrorist" in describing why he is switching to that system. I don't recall the Continental Army ever deliberately targeting civilians or Washington ever sending suicide bombers to blow up pubs in England.

He's not the sort of person I want to give my money to.

What's the URL for the original Haven website?
I'd like to take a gander :)
