So, we animated a few warforged last night

I'm playing in an Eberron campaign, currently finishing up Shadows of the Last War, where we find Whitehearth and a warforged schema. I'm not entirely sure what the schema does, but read on.

Due to our very liberal Action Point system we opened up Pandora's box. Last night in order to escape the secret labratory, since we didn't run when we had the chance and decided to rest to regain spells, we were ambushed by a vampire and some minions.

We quickly closed up, retreating into the lab, and gave some thought to our predicament. Earlier, the DM made an error in my mind, by telling us, "you also find a Xendrik warforged pattern to go with the schema". How the hell did we know what it was?

Now, Pandora's box. In one of the rooms in the labratory contains a forge and 3 vats with mostly finished warforged. The warlock gets the idea he can Use Magic Device to figure out how the forge, schema and Xendrik bit fit together and "awaken" the warforged. I said he was arrogant for thinking he could do it, but...

He rolled a 41 on UMD and the DM decided he'd successfully animated the 3 warforged. Not in the same manner as a warforged PC, (which is what my character is), but 3 mindless constructs under our control.

Equiping these newly crafted warforged, we were able to smash through the ambush and escape.

Now, ignoring the fact he rolled a 41 on UMD (he rolled 5 action dice - ridiculous house rule), what is going to stop us from doing the same thing again?

Obviously I need to bring this to the groups attention, but I'm curious to hear any thoughts from others :\

How about the DM decides that this "forge" is now broken and can't do it again? The thing's been tainted by the Mournland, after all; who's to say what's going to happen next?

The 3 new 'Forged could suddenly animate with the souls of 3 murderously insane dead people from the Mournland.

Are you carrying this "forge" with you now? It sounds like you escaped with the skin of your metaphorical teeth, and don't have control of Whitehearth anymore.

The 3 gave their "lives" to save the rest of us. We have 2 schema, the Xendrik thingy and the idea that we can do it again.

We probably wont try to make it through the Mournlands again.

I'm probably half way annoyed at the action point house rule, the impossible UMD ranks the 6th level warlock claims to have, and the fact the DM complains he can't beat us in combat despite the fact we all run amok like chickens with their heads cut off. I guess that would be 3 ways annoyed.

This is what I'd go with. Have the warforged be containers for souls, but not provide their own -- and in the Mournland, all sorts of bad things will be available to take up residence.

Insane-with-grief ghosts are the best possible options ... ;)

Those are good ideas.

I think last night I figured out something that had been gnawing on my conscious. The cleric used to have the Favored in House feat, but was redesigned with the DM's permission and instead has the Action Boost feat now. This was after at least two PC's "borrowed" favors in the form of magic items.

Hmm. I need to really talk to the rest of the group.
