D&D 4E So, what do you see yourself as in 4e?

I'd say 30% Storyteller/30% Slayer: I like to find a balance of a mechanically finely tuned character with a wide variety of options to get involved in a really kick arse action story. Slayer has those power gamer features that I have shades of, but I still like to choose 'cool' over 'damage'. But cool + damage is best.

That leaves me 40% ... hmmm 20% of that would be Instigator. When things slump to a halt I like to stop searching for traps and open the frikken door!

Which leaves 20% ... so 7% actor 6% explorer 5% thinker: I enjoy each of these things but maybe to a lesser degree. I don't think of my characters as being only a certain way. They might have an angle they see things from, but like people their character can change with the situation and their mood. I don't think anyone is a certain way all the time. I like travelling through lots of varied locations, cities, towns, jungles, outerspace, the bakers ... but I also want stuff to happen there, not just exploration for explorations sake. I don't like endlessly searching for clues i know I should find just because I might have rolled low on my perception check. I like puzzles and figuring things out, but I like them to be part of something dynamic.

which leaves me with 2% for the Watcher. I like to see what my fellow characters are going to get up to or propose. I will often follow their lead no matter how badly thought out the idea. I think saying yes as a player is a big part of improvisation and the enjoyment of the game. If someone has an idea run with it. Don't get me wrong, I love to be involved in the meat of the game, find myself in the thick of things, but i like to keep in perspective that it is just a game, and the only reason I'm playing it is to have fun, and not selfish fun, fun that can be shared with everyone else at the table. So I guess that 2% while small, is a pretty important 2% for me.

Given 4 roles, in order of importance, I think I'm an Actor, Thinker, Instigator, and Powergamer.

For me roleplaying is all about the character, the starting point of every player, so I try to get into my character's head and try to approach every situation as they would.

For types of character, I tend to play smart-guy types, problem solvers - it fits with my own personality. That is not to say I have never played anything else, but it's my 'default' character, which I am most comfortable with.

As a player, I can be a bit impatient when it comes to everything but character interaction and well-thought out planning. I will prod the others to action, and try to get things moving; depending on the character I'm playing, this usually either means I try to push the group to a decision, or interrupt endless discussions by immediately taking whatever action my character feels is the best idea.

Lastly, I'm an optimizer. I like analyzing systems for the 'game of Charop' itself, but since I'm primarily an Actor, I tend to optimize according to my character concept. I also sometimes try to design characters from the point of the mechanics, seeing a class or build that I like and trying to think of a fitting personality for it. Either way usually gives me a character that is far from min-maxed, but quite well optimized as far as the concept allows.

1. Storyteller
Story is by far the most important thing to me. Theoretically, at least. In actuality, I do enjoy being a

2. Power Gamer
I won't make a bad character, even if my character concept is a loser. I'd make a bard and roleplay all the magic as pure luck.

3. Thinker
I really do love a good logic puzzle. I'm not too good at putting them in my games, but if I encountered them as a player I'd be ecstatic.

4. Actor
In real life, I love acting. In games, it's only a secondary (or I guess...fourthary?) motivation for me.

The others are pretty much even for me, though I am definitely no watcher! I love my friends and all, but when I game, I want to game! No cell phones, TV, or drawn out conversations while we're trying to kill the orc warpriest.
