The only special cover 5e books that became worth reselling, afaik, were Mordenkainen's and Xanathars, the first two. Mord's was actually selling for $500-700 depending on how close to the holidays it was.
These prices are ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, there was times when I bought stuff that was long out of print that I paid well over MSRP for, but I still have them. Paying an inflated price for a book that will be available in about a month where the content is the same regardless of what version you buy doesn't make much sense to me, but to each their own.
 

D&D is not basic human need, it's an commodity.

People can market up as much as they want.

Wait a month for your basic price copy...

This is same as people complaining at restaurant prices, go to a supermarket and buy your food and cook it at home.
