I'm hping that WoTC will start using the old artist for many projects now. Not hopeful mind you as I think that WoTC kinda threw this whole nostalgia thing together in a relatively quick pattern and didn't maximize it's impact, but it would be nice to see some more of the older artists from back in the day given some cover time. Argh, can't believe i misspelled Erol Otus either! Old I say.

I think the last (new) Erol Otus cover I saw was for the HackMaster Basic book, and before that, he was mostly doing covers for the Dungeon Crawl Classics line from Goodman and a few other HackMaster module covers.

I was looking the other day at art from a game called Alma Mater that he did...

In it there is a picture called "Tripped Out" in which I guess the student is supposed to be on LSD or something... Funny thing is it's one of the LEAST trippy picture in the whole book.

I have to think that was by design.

And to me, that's a damn shame. Some of the classic artists for the time period skipped over for decades and when the possible wave of nostalgica comes, we get one Larry Elmore cover. Heck, even Clyde Caldwell has done work for Goodman. It's too bad that WoTC seems to think that Wayne Reynolds and the others from the latest crop are the only artist in the industry.

Not saying Wayne and the others are bad at all mind you, but when part of the whole appeal of the Red Box thing is supposed to be nostalgia, how many covers in Dragon or Dungeon have utilized that to any effect? One, this month.
