From www.casshern.com:

An alternate world with an alternate history.

The entire planet was divided between two opposing alliances.
After fifty years of bitter warfare,
the Greater Eastern Federation triumphs over
the forces of Europa and gains dominion over the Eurasian continent.

However, this is an empty victory.
Years of chemical, biological and nuclear war have poisoned the land and
left an exhausted population at the mercy of every pestilence and newly-mutated disease.

It seems that there's little hope for humanity's future.
Debate rages over the chances of finding some way to stave off
the seemingly-inevitable decline of civilization.

One man comes forward with a possible solution.
Dr. Azuma is a geneticist who proposes a "neo-cell" treatment that
can rejuvenate the body and regenerate humankind.
He's driven in his studies by a desire to save his beloved wife, Midori,
from the ravages of pollution-related disease.

He appeals for funding to the government
but the politicians in the Health Ministry turn him down,
fearing that the new technology will threaten their entrenched powers.

However, a sinister faction in the powerful military makes
a secret offer to provide the support he needs to further his research.

When an incident occurs in the lab that sends
the Professor's "neo-cell" cloning experiment haywire,
a race of mutant human beings (Shinzo Ningen) is unleashed upon the world.

Instead of being the savior of mankind,
the Professor's miraculous technology looks set to threaten its very existence...

Unfortunately, the rest of the site is in Japanese... I might get the DVD just for eye candy, though, even if not subtitled.

Its based on an old 70's Japanese anime. The movie itself was filmed in two months with 6 months of post production all for an amazing budget of 6 million dollars!!

The story is pretty much what's on the website. There was a war between Europe and Asia and Asia won. However, the use of chemical and biological weapons has rendered much of the world a toxic wasteland.

The wife of a brilliant biochemist/geneticist/robotics expert (in the original anime he is just a robotics engineer) is dying of a pollution related disease so he tries to find a cure for her. The military funds his research hoping to make super soldiers with his research.

He succeeds and creates a new race of super mutants immune to the pollution. The super mutants (in the original anime are all cyborgs and not really mutants) have other ideas about serving the military and begin to take over everything.

The professor's son decides he is the only one that can stop them and so undergoes his father's treatment to be a super mutant/cyborg warrior called Casshern. He is basically this invincible super warrior that kicks mutant ass. :)

Should be an interesting movie.

Whoa! It looks good. I hope that the low budget and little time don't mean that everything cool is limited to the trailer. Do you think there's any chance for some distributor to pick it up, dub it and make a theatrical release here in the old western world? I mean, the looks are enough to make it sell well.

Odds are it will make it over here eventually, but it probably will only get here on DVD, a theatrical release is extremely unlikely.
