So who's getting ulcers from anticipation?

Now why would the game publishers need to tap the resources of George R.R. Martin when they have such talented workers as R.A. Salvatore? Eh?

I talked to Anthony Valterra and Monte Cook about the Setting Search at GenCon.

Monte Cook confirmed that he had sent in something and called it the opportunity of a lifetime something that may never come along again. He mentioned that the WotC people thought that they could get something like 500 submissions, he, like most of us, told them that they were crazy and would get at least 5,000 if not 10,000.

Anthony Valterra mentioned the same thing about it being the chance of a lifetime or at the very least an opportunity that wouldn't come along for another 20 years. When I offered him cash if it would help my odds he re-iterated that it was completely blind and as such I could give him all the cash I wanted but it wouldn't help. Then he mentioned something which led me to believe <speculation> that although he was done reading his submission allotment that not everyone was, thus I guess the end of August postponement.</speculation>

As for my own ulcer status or lack thereof, Reality has a way of growing with time and at this point my estimation of my own chances is that they are essentially non-existant.

I DO hope you're not serious. While Salvatore's work may be fine for low-grade D&D novels (yes, I just said that; I liked them fine when I was 13-15, but now...), he's just not anywhere near George Martin's level.

Salvatore's Demonwars books were (IMO) poor at the very best.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a masterpiece by comparison.
So's the Wheel of Time for that matter.

Gotta say I agree with the Hak.

Yeah, that was meant as a joke. Sorry if I scared you. To compare Martin to Salvatore is...well...you know. I've not read much game novel material. Are there any *well* written works out there? If game companies produced quality novels, would they sell, or are people turned off by the idea of game fic and automatically discount any attempt at high standards in the genre? Of course, I ask these questions because I write, and I write better than R.A., and I'm trying to get started in this particular field. I'm wondering if it's worth the time, or if I'd be running in circles. This post, btw, is not indicative of my skills, writing wise. I tend to post nonlinearly. Bad shad. Bad.

So yeah, I'd bet real money that he sent something in. Which means he can't win because that would delay his work on A Dance With Dragons :-)

I thought he was working on "a feast of crows"????

And me? I'm going stir crazy.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I sent mine in thinking "This is Awesome!"

After looking at the stack of submissions in the picture posted, I was like....ugggggg.....I don't think it matters how good it is.

I know they are trying to be as fair as possible, but ten out of ten thousand, when competing with those who know the intracacies of the game?

Thats 1:1000 odds and in those ten thousand are published pros, who want one of those slots as well.

I think my submission was really good...but that....sheesh.

That's the one. For some reason I thought it was a A Feast of Ravens (silly, silly me).

A Dance With Dragons is the title he chose to use for the FIFTH book. Originally it was meant for the fourth, and then he switched them.

I really don't know what the ASoIaF RPG handbook would be like except for a large background book (which of course would be cool :D). I mean, it's not exactly like there are any outstandingly difficult things to render mechanics-wise. Just stick to the NPC classes for everyone ;)
