So your PC is blinded?

So your PC is permanently blinded (well, until she can get the spell lifted) by a Blindness spell. What do you do?

This happened to my PC this past weekend. My 7th level sorcerer was blinded by some nasty lizard folk and for one round of combat, I admit, I did nothing. But then, next round I cast Clairvoyance/Clairaudience and the DM ruled that since I'd been in the area for a while and was familiar with the surrounding, that I could see through the Clairvoyance spell; and that I would again be able to cast things that required sight and take other actions that required sight.

What have you all done in the past to combat blindness in a PC? Did you get the blindness removed immediately? I had it removed shortly thereafter at a temple nearby.

Just curious to what others' experiences with blindness in a PC are.

Clairvoyance was clever! If you do any adventure logs, I would play up the one round of doing nothing as being in shock at losing your sight before you found a way to react.

As for what I would do with such a character - I would solve the condition as quickly as possible. It is hard to target spells without any sight. There are some characters that could get away with not necessarily being able to see, but a full-fledged spellcaster will have a rough time with being blind. Either magically curing the blindness, or acquiring an item that allows you to see to some degree are your best options.

or you can turn it into a strength, but then again, I designed the class above for fighters not casters.

Note: I need to replace altertness with skill focus listen

I had my cleric cast fire seeds so that someone else could throw the acorn grenade, then followed it up with a flamestrike by the sounds of fighting.

We had a 3rd level PC blinded for an adventure, and the hardest part was miniatures and combat.

The problem was the character, while blinded and having 50% concealment, still was using player knowledge to determine which square the enemy was in. So, the best solution was to remove the PC's miniature, as he had no idea where he was relative to the combat (without a listen check, in which case, he got to put his mini on the table for a round, "discovering" where he was).

And yes, clairvoyance is a brilliant move!

Dispel doesn't cancel the blindness (I believe) since it is a perm effect.

You can Dispel permanent spells just fine. It's instantaneous spells you can't dispel.

Monte Cook recommended in a column once having the player of an invisible character sit under the table. That way, people are more likely to remember they can't see him.

Doing the same thing for a blind character might work, since that way the player can't see the battlemat...
