Dungeon Crafter seems easy enough to use, but the few tile sets that came with the basic download (which included a "TSR Classic" tile set) didn't quite have enough symbols (although the "TST Classic" tiles that were included were great).

Where can additional/custom tile sets be obtained? What is involved in making custom tile sets?

Backtrack the original link url a little like this http://dungeoncrafter3.com/legacy/ . There on the right edge is the download section where you can find DC1 and DC2 custom sets.

What ever happened with DC2? Was that ever finished, or did they abandon it and move on to DC3? It was showing a great deal of promise in the later alphas.

Yeah, they sort of dropped it. Don't know why. And unfortunatily it badly seems that they dropped DC3 in the middle of development too. On their own forum they haven't said anything for half a year now.
