Solars, Oathbound, and just so much Epic ickiness.

Nightfall

Sage of the Scarred Lands
Well I ran a one shot yesterday. Premise was just going to be the PCs land in Oathbound and play through Dark Welcomes adventure in the book. Well that quickly turned around as it became two PCs ...and the fact they and I (sort of) felt there was little chance there would be a campaign to do this. Thus when they said "Come on! Let's do Epic level!" I said "Fine." Thus came the Solars/Semi-fallen Arch Angels with class levels. Their idea (with a little fine tuning from yours truly) they were LG but Helm ordered them to slay a village of possible innocents. They refused and decided the God was wrong. So they got tossed into the Forge as part of their punishment. So the Solar Raphael decided it was time to promote secular humanism as well as rid the city of Penance of all the above ground evil. Needless to say having two fully powered (and slightly altered Solars) with class levels in Hallowed Mage from BoHM, and the Angel of Death, Azazel (he only had 8 class levels but took the prestige race focuses of the Body and Senses.) they kicked a lot of evil butt. However this wasn't the end. They installed a new Bloodlord who was going to bring communism and separation of Church and State. Oh did I mention she was a former common prostitute they wished/altered into a half celestial sorcereress with plenty of spell-like abilities. Thus they got out of being Bloodlords by saying they served her. They finally managed to leave after one of their number the Arch Angel Raoloiss told them to go find an artifact and they would be welcome back to travel all realities. They easily slayed a EL of 40 before the monsters could even respond (surprise round.) and left. Needless to say the Forge or at least Penance is no longer the same. But it was fun. The sickness of it all though...*shudder*

*smirks* Well it's not like they are getting rid of Bloodlords fighting. They just said "The people own and decide laws, The Bloodlords fight to prove their valor in working for the people."

Thats why I have difficulty imagining a long-lasting Epic game. When I tried players with 40 levels to play around with each, they quickly messed up the entire campaign world in two nights (it was a special occasion, with a visitor & all) I could hardly use anything from the books, since most things had been slain, mind-altered, converted, banished or maimed....

Eh I might have used more...but I hard time justifying why High Level Demons would invade the Forge since it's not the place you WANT to go, unless you want to attract divine attention. Not to mention the PCs were smart enough NOT to piss of Isrefal(sp), since they didn't want her job. That's was all I could think of. Not to mention sending out epic monsters...didn't make sense since this is a city, not the Wildwood or Arena.
