Sold through already

As for the continued ownership of WotC by Hasbro, leading up to the release of D&D 4e, Hasbro stock has gone up an average of 5% over the last week. That's a huge jump for someone that isn't much of a player in the market (though are obviously a giant in the retail world). The financial buzz surrounding Hasbro has made them a must grab, must keep corp.

(Especially since they also own the Marvel/Transformer/Star Wars lines all which are on the rise in sales as well.)

Aside: Which turned out to be the right decision in the end, thanks to the Wii's horrendously bad attach rates. Turns out a large number of consumers simply bought the Wii, played Wii Sports... and that's it.

In any case, Mustrum_Ridcully has the right of it.

This is a myth (I'm a sales-ager on NeoGaf). The Wii has a great attach rate for a fast selling console, last Christmas in the US it had a comparable or greater attach rate than the 360. It constantly charts in all regions and not just Nintendo software, 3rd party market on the Wii is somewhere between 50-60%.

Also a myth is the amount of casuals on the system, there are a significant number of million sellers on the Wii that are no "casual" games.

In short, Wii users buy a lot of software.

I'd love to compare Paizo and Green Ronin. Has any one of their books sold even 100,000 units (not counting adding 1st and 2nd edition of Mutants & Masterminds together)?

During the majority of time since 3rd edition, Wizards of the Coast launched two or sometimes even three roleplaying game books every single month.

The trick here is that it doesn't matter. Green Ronin overhead being what it is, means that they don't need to sell nearly the same level of books in order to make the same level of profit. WotC is no longer just another game company looking for their piece of the pie.. they're a subsidiary of of Hasbro. They need to sell a LOT of books for it to count. After Hasbro lost out on all of those Pokemon profits they're going to be pushing for it too.

So, does this (WotC outdoing their own initial sales estimates) provide conclusive evidence that the dude(tte?) that leaked the books early actually helped sales, or at least had no negative impact?

Congratulations to WotC, though. I may loathe the new edition, but I still can't hate the company that brought me 3E, a game that's brought me joy for almost a decade, and probably will continue to for another decade, at least until 5E comes out.
