I say good for him.
If you have that kind of money and love your hobbies, go for it.

In the Grand Scheme of things its no differnt than a 50,000 dollar remote control plane.
Or a 700,000 dollar sports car.

It's an Item, that can be considered an investment, that makes the buyer happy.

I just hope his money making scheme gets him at least half of his money back.

I heard that he plans on renting out space on the island and charging people to hunt on his land.

Of course, it would be funny if someone takes over that island...

I'm not really having a go at him. If he's happy, great. If he's doing it as an investment, though - do you remember the dot-com boom and bust? Where everyone invested in things that didn't exist? Remember how well that worked?
