While they do lack other encounter powers, they do get daily powers (and the benefit of preparing multiples of the same way if they choose) and they do have a normal striker damage power that is basically the same as a warlock's curse or hunter's quarry without needing to spend the feat to get them up to d8's, so they will probably be comparable to other strikers, but with most of the damage put into a single shot (Which is important).

Hm. Now I kinda want to make a assassin who paragon multiclasses into wizard so I can get magic missile, then take that "magic missile as a minor action" power so I can plink anyone who gets close to death.

Unfortunately, you need to hit and deal damage for the death attack feature to trigger, so the lack of attack roll for the magic missle ruins it.
