Just came across this interesting fact in Medieval Maritime Warfare. One person estimated William the Conquerer force Need 28 tons of unmilled wheat grain & 14, 000 gallons of fresh water. This was 4 pds of grain and 1 gallon of water. The army was around 14,000 people.
