Somebody Reassure Me About Gen Con

Richards

Legend
I'm hearing disturbing rumors to the effect that there won't be any booklets mailed out to those who registered for Gen Con this year. I've already received my badge, and if memory serves I had already received my preregistration booklet by this time last year. Can somebody please reassure me that there will in fact be a booklet sent out detailing all of the seminars/game sessions/events going on at Gen Con? I've been hearing rumors that the Powers That Be are planning on just having that info on the web.

And if you can't reassure me, and in fact can only crush my little heart with the news that it will all be done over the web this year, could you tell me if the information has been posted yet? I don't see anything on the Gen Con page over at the Wizards website.

I think it's flat-out crazy for it to be all done online now. Are they really that sure that a majority of con-goers have either the inclination or access to use the internet in lieu of the books (which I love to look through)? I think it's nuts to make such an assumption, but that's just my opinion...

Money money money. WotC already have invested big bucks on their servers etc. It is much cheaper for them to do everything online.

My problem is when I try to register for events or even get info on them, the web site tells me there is no info available. I am frustrated and will not register for a badge until I know I can get in what I want to. Any suggestions??

Well, WotC are still in the middle of selling GenCon to Peter Adkison. Actually, the deal goes through this week (Wednesday, most likely), at which point Adkison's team can then get cracking on stuff, presumably.

Adkison is using WotC's infrastructure for this year, but as of next year GenCon will be on its own.

I guess it's a case of waiting until the sale in final and then see what happens.

You can't get event info in the online store until *after* you get a badge. Sneaky, no?

You have to enter an email address to get a badge, and then 'log in' with the same email account to view events.

I got my badge way back, then ordered events the first day they were online. I missed one event, and when I went back a week later to get it, I couldn't. But a quick call to WotC Customer Support fixed my "account" and I got the event in about a minute.

No booklets and I am NOT happy about it. I hope that they will have something at the CON, so I can look up games for free slots.

What gets me is that there is no longer any pluses for being a early bird!

Wait. Does that mean there won't be any booklets at the Con either? I never pre-reg for events but pick up stuff while I am there. . . Hmmm. . . I guess it is all generic tickets for me then.

I know that is the way I am going BUT if they don't have something at the CON, how would you know where to be and go for a pick up game?

I just have to remember to order a ENworld T-shirt before I go!
