Someone who really knows -- please describe Dawnforge for me!

Yeah, well the title says it all. I'm a big fan of Midnight, but more as a setting to read, not play (besides, I could never give up homebrewing. ;)) But what's the scoop on Dawnforge? What's it all about, what's it like, etc.?

Well, this is no review, but a first impression. I have the book here, and somehow I felt that even the Scarred Lands are exotic in comparison with Dawnforge.

1) I think Scarred Lands is exotic, and has a different enough flavor from most settings to distinguish it.
2) Unoriginal >< bad.
3) What settings do you prefer?

I have not gotten all the way through Dawnforge to form a final opinion, but the writing and new mechanics are excellent. It's a solid product.

Okay, maybe my answer was a bit vague, although I expect that what I wrote in the link was quite clear.
Yes, the Scarred Lands are exotic - at least they were in the beginning ;) - and I could mine them for quite a lot of ideas. The last point denotes where I expect a published setting to deliver.
And yes, I find Dawnforge not to be very original. Most parts of it are much too close to the settings where they were picked from (Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, KoK, etc.). I don't need Dawnforge to play in Cormanthor not yet overrun by drow, or to replay the Giants vs. Dwarves wars or to visit the Serpent Kingdoms or to go to a land ruled by dragons.
It's not a bad setting, no way. It's just a bit close to everyone's (and my ;)) old time favourites. This means, I actually like FR. I also like the Scarred Lands. I found something to mine in Morningstar, too. I also find the rehash of "The Wilderlands" refreshing. But I don't need all D&D standard settings of now and old times mixed up in a new disguise.

Maybe, it grows on me. You never know ;).
