Something I really like about TriStat dX

well, there are a lot of things...but at the top of the list:

I only need one sheet of paper...one side of it even, to write all the details about my character on. The simplicity. It's beautiful. It's reminiscent of the days when I started playing Basic D&D. One character=One Sheet.

Rules Light=Less Bookkeeping.

The other things?

The Rule of Three in Game Design:
1. One Book.
2. Flexibility.
3. Versatility.

Concur.

The Tri-Stat ruleset is a very nice little package, I only wish that the BESM book wasn't so bloody expensive ($35 for a small softcover with no color art). Granted, there are some things that I simply wouldn't run using Tri-Stat because it's so simple, but it definitely has its niche in the gaming market.

Also, as long as we're discussing non D&D/d20 systems, I have to chime in and say I love the classic Deadlands system. Yes, there is some wonkiness to it, but it's got flavor.

Tri-Stat is a cool system, I agree 100%, and for the same reasons. If your BESM is $35 bucks, then your getting ripped. The one at my LGS is $25 bucks. ...... unless your discussing the d20 versions, in which case I take back what I said... but... we are still getting ripped anyways. ;)

And since we are talking about non-d20 games, how about Silhouette CORE? I just got that book, and with a couple exceptions it's a very nice and simple game. Gotta check it out.

I don't like the Silhouette system at all.

The differences between dice levels are too big and stats have way too much influence in skill rolls. 1 die = totally random, 2 dice = ok, 3 dice = almost always succeed at everything you have a decent stat for.

Yes, Deadlands is a great system. When I read, that it was converted to D20 I only thought... what a shame, making another stupid D20 conversion of a great game system thereby completely ruining it. There are a few games, that simply should not be converted to D20 (also Shadowrun - gladly, the designers see this, too - or Cthulhu - the D20 version cannot live up to the original there as well).

I like D20, but it's not for every system and everything but generic. :)

The Deadlands system adds so much flavor to the background (especially once you add poker cards and chips) and really works quite well (with similar principles as Silhouette just a thousand times better designed).

my D&D 3.0 character fits on one side of a 4x6 index card. i never understood why people think they need four- or five-paged character sheets to play D&D. it's not that complicated.

i picked up Tri-Stat dX about six months ago or so. i remember it not clicking with me -- i won't say it's a bad system, because it's not, but it just didn't grab me. (after several months, though, i can't really remember what it was i didn't like about it.)

some systems i finish reading and immediately think, "wow! i have got to make a campaign with this!" after i finished reading Tri-Stat, i just sort of went, "huh. that was interesting," and put it back on my gaming shelf. i don't think i've looked at it since.

A 4x6 Index card? Wow!!! That is amazing. Must be a Halfling...

You know? Because they are so short...you know? :heh:

OK, bad Halfling joke.

Being serious now: I would really like to see that character...would be interesting to see its bio, feats, skills, weapons etc...
