Something that irks me: Bad book covers

I have long believed you could judge a book by its cover- not completely, but it does give you a solid idea of the commitment the publishers and/or authors have to the book.

Boy, I'm glad I don't follow that rule, or I'd have missed out on a lot of stuff, like James White's Sector General series, one of my all time favorite reads. One cover (presumably an illustration of Sector General station itself), looks like an art deco representation of spaghetti thrown against a wall.

That artist for that Mercedes Lackey book looks like the same incompetent hack who did several of the Wildcards books several years back. Glad they replaced him with art from Timothy Truman, instead.

Most Asimov novels had horrible covers, yet they were incredible books.

I have the same book and I agree that the cover isn't that great. However, I have a feeling that the book may be a Sci Fi Book Club Omnibus edition... their covers sometimes leave much to be desired.
