Damn!

I don't like it when I am DMing and I realise "if the bad guys did this, the entire party would be dead". I don't like pulling punches, but I don't like TPKs either. I don't trust the CR system at all due to similar experiences.

Did the Chimera also get the metamagic applied (I'm not sure of the monster or template stats)? That would change things considerably.

Also, I take it the Shaddow Template gives Evasion. Against two wizards, that's a killer.

And they didn't seem to be buffed as usual, which would screw over a party used to that kind of thing.

I echo the unanimous general impression about that story, not out of sheepishness, but because I really think it.

If Afqithan has faerie traits, arcane magic is indeed empowered, maximized and extended (divine magic and psionics are unaffected). More importantly, Faerie has flowing time, and in a version that you catch on when you exit it -- they'd better not stay too long on it. Faerie also has light gravity and infinite size, the rest of the traits being default. I can imagine Afqithan having a mild evil alignment, however. And why not having the "nastier faerie trait" entrapping...

Ortwin hacked at Lorochtoh’s draconic head with Githla, until it parted from the thick neck. He dragged it behind himself as he walked back through the portal, and smiled.

That wasn’t so bad, after all, he thought.
To quote Han Solo, "I have a bad feeling about this." (Ortwin carrying around Lorochtoh's draconic head, that is.)

Wow - excellent first sojurn into the next plane! :D

Politics and adventuring at the highest level - it doesn't get any better than this, folks! :D
