I remember seeing and reading about a group project that explored spell domains for sorcerers that related to their magical heritage. But I lost track of it and don't know what became of it. Does anyone know of a link to a site with the information? Thanks

Yup, that should be on my site. Look in my sig, click on updates, scroll until you see "Sorcerer Domain System".

My plan is to resurrect the project after 3.5 comes out, to better make use of the new spells in the PHB.
