Sorcerer - Int Bonus to Spells Known?

What do you folks think of letting a Sorcerer add bonus spells to his Spells Known list? For example, an 8th lvl Sorcerer with Int16 would know 8/6/4/3/1 instead of 8/5/3/2/1. It seems like this would give intelligent sorcerers an nice, but not overly unbalancing, edge.

I see nothing wrong with it and in fact have done so in a previous campaign. Keep in mind that the sorcerer will still pump CHA since that is the key spellcasting stat so I don't see any balancing issues.

So... what happens when the Int-16 Sorcerer casts, say, Fox's Cunning on himself. Does he suddenly know an extra 4th, 5th, and 1st level spell? Is it the same one each time? Does he get to choose? Or does he need an actual Headband of Intellect for such to apply?

Things could get sticky.

I don't see why, no one expects to suddenly learn more skills or languages when they put on a headband of intellect.

Same thing that happens when a Wizard casts fox's cunning on himself: he does not get more spells. You need to wake up smarter (and stay smarter all day) to gain bonus spells.

And personally, I'd restrict it to permanent Int enhancements (like skills) if I allowed it at all.

The same thing as if a RAW sorcerer were to cast eagle's splendor on himself, I guess.

I might allow one to use their 1st level feat, to gain that bonus.
Agreed. The ability is a little too useful if it's not slightly constrained. Forcing the character to burn up that first level feat could do it. So could foregoing the familiar, perhaps (depending upon the campaign).
