D&D 5E Sorcerer Multiclassing?

It doesn't, but War 5 does.

It takes two short rests between long rests to catch that warlock up on fireballs thrown - without even being able to uptick for 9 or 10 dice.
If one eyes flex cast for sorc points for meta-magic or buying slots its six per short rest vs 25 over long rest so more like four short rests.

Every level in warlock basically costs you more high end slots that give you more returns and drives even more the short rest threshold needed to get back to even.

So it's pretty much even for 3rd+ spells, better for higher level spells, worse for lower level, and outright bad if you want your 7th+.

Of course, you probably won't level it like that though. If you're focused on doing one or two things reliably, you basically only go Sorc until you get the spell.

My goal is to be more offensive and less squishy. I've heard good things about Sorcerer/Warlock multiclassing. Any thoughts?

Yeah, with those goals Sorc is the only real option. I think. 1 lvl of Warlock (hexblade) will immediatly give you half plate armor + shield and a spell slot for the shield spell that resets on SR. the second level gives you full eldritch blast capabilities and a 2nd spell slot.

Let's look at 10th dince you brought up 5war earlier

10 Sorcerer 10 4 1st level, 3 2nd level, 3 3rd level, 3 4th level, 2 5th level

Sor 5/War 5 4 1st level, 3 2nd level, 8 3rd level

Both can cast 8 fireballs, sure...
But the dorc casts 5 of them doing more dice of damage and has more sorc points base (10 vs 5) to use.

So, the claim that the warlock 5 made his fireballs better or helped them to be cast is not supported. You got worse by losing the 9 and 10 dice casts.

Now compare it to bards mc 5/5 sorc, the slots math remains the same for fireball but the bard suffers the same 5 sorc pts drop. But now we are comparing the bard class and sub-class gains vs the warlocks as well - did not have to sacrifice the high end slots

10 Sorcerer 10 4 1st level, 3 2nd level, 3 3rd level, 3 4th level, 2 5th level

Right, sorry. Got carried away with even split. If we wanted to see just what impact 5 levels of Warlock has:

Right, sorry. Got carried away with even split. If we wanted to see just what impact 5 levels of Warlock has:

Yeah i was gonna comment, when someone says they wanna multiclass their slorc 5 to gain some power i come to two basic facts before continuing...

1 they are sorc 5, so sirc 1-4 done deal
2 they want to be a sorc, so at least halftheir classes kevels should be sorc.

If someone asked about a good way to boost a fighter with multi, i would not say "just take 19 levels of rogue" (or 18 etc) since thats basicaly saying "play a rogue instead" to me at least.
But specifically for the sorc mukti the impact of the higher slots is big. Of the "8 fireballs" the sorc/bard can burn one 5th level slot to empower 5 of those casts or quicken or heighten etc. So, whether its two extea dice or two bonus sorc points, the pact magic scaling hurts quite a bit.

Compared with the bard gains that dont require the sacrifice to spell power - doesnt add up to me.

usefulmuse If you are looking for power, don’t MC. MCing a full caster always leaves you underpowered compared to a full caster at the same level.
If you’re looking to MC for fun, Feylock or Glamor bard fit perfectly with the wild magic sorcerer. I’m currently running a WildSor5/Feylock5/GlamorBard5 that’s an absolute blast even though he only has 3rd level spells at 15th CL.

Hey! I need some advice on how to best multiclass as it'll be my first time trying it. So far I have a level 5 half-elf Wild Magic sorcerer with the following stats:

Strength 10/ Intelligence 10/ Dexterity 16/ Wisdom 12/ Constitution 16/ Charisma 18

My goal is to be more offensive and less squishy. I've heard good things about Sorcerer/Warlock multiclassing. Any thoughts?

1) My table's sorcerer grew massively in offense starting at 5th level. You're at the point where you just got access to your most powerful spell (fireball or lightning bolt) and so you're gonna see this growth too, of you know one of those. You also start getting enough spell slots that you're riding around a tonne of spells compared to your earliest levels.

So, since one of your goals is stronger offense, you're best off multiclassing into another full spellcaster (bard/cleric/druid/wizard) so you get more slots to use with fireball.

2) My table's sorcerer was never squishy. He's a hill dwarf dragon sorcerer with a high Constitution. He has more hit points than any other party member. So I can't draw on his experience in my advice for you. (Unless multiracing is an option; is multiracing am option?)

Personally, I'd go with Tempest cleric for the heavy armor, and so I can worship Thor. And if you choose lightning bolt instead of fireball,
the Tempest cleric's channel divinity is a fantastic addition to your sorcerer's offense. (You'll need boots of striding and springing or another solution to use that Heavy armor without losing any speed, though)

After 8th level- and ASI to get to 13+, that's not bad at all.
