Sorcerous feat: Weave Spell

Forgot to add:

One thing I don't like about the fact that it's based on the "bonus" slots is that Sorcerers haven't needed to keep track of which slots were bonus and which were regular. You just had X slots per day, and while certain things could reduce this number (negative levels, for instance), it still remained a single number to work with. So, for this to work, they'd have to add an extra level of bookkeeping that didn't exist previously. This is not a good thing, IMO.

And Helium3's right, I completely missed the possibility of Bards. A high-level Bard would easily be able to meet the requirements and DCs, and would suddenly have the entire Sorcerer list available to him? Too much. Of course, the Feat never should have said "Sorcerer spell list" in the first place, so just change it to "the spell list of the class providing the spell slot in question" or something.

Oh wait. I was partly wrong. Bards would only get the bard spell list. They wouldn't get access to the Sorcerer spell list. Still might make the Bard more powerful.

You guys (especially Spatzimaus, but everyone else also) are great.

I toyed a little with the math of the DC check (because I'd really like to keep it a Spellcraft check) and estimated that a DC of 15 + spell level + caster level would usually give a Weaver about a 50% chance of launching the highest level of Weaved spell he could... It's not a very elegant DC, I'll admit...

Just don't forget to add the constraint that you can't take 10 when using this ability.

Good idea.

Limiting it by spell school is an excellent way to bring it in line. Require Spell Focus as a prerequisite, and change it to "When the feat is selected, select one school of magic for which you have Spell Focus. You can make a Weave check to cast an unknown spell of that school on your spell list. This Feat may be taken multiple times; each time, a new school for which you have Spell Focus is chosen." It wouldn't open up the entire spell list, that way.

Perfect.

One idea I had was that the weave would burn up more than one spell slot, ie one spell slot from a Charisma bonus and another spell slot granted just by class level. This would help to limit the number of high level spells that could be cast this way.

Hm. The reason I wanted to limit it to bonus Charisma slots was to limit the number of times per day that the caster could Weave a spell. Increasing the number of slots Weaving a spell takes will indeed limit it too, by decreasing the number of spells the caster can use during the day...

My favorite solution so far would be to use a higher spell slot that the spell to be Weaved.

Yeah I didn't take the bard into account because I'll probably won't be using the class in my next campaign. I'll write up the feat in a way to specify that you have access to your own spell list.

I'll edit the first post.
