Soul Extraction
Conjuration, Evil
Level: Cleric, Sor/Wiz 6.
Components: S, V, M.
Casting Time: 1 standard action.
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels).
Target: Self or one sentient mortal entity.
Duration: Permanent.
Saving Throw: None/Will negates.
Spell Resistance: Yes.

This spell allows the soul, in hole of in part, of a sentient and mortal individual entity to be extracted in a physical form with the permission of the entity subject to this spell.

The subject of the spell must given consent, that cannot be magically compelled, to the use of this spell and the must agree to how much of their soul is to be extracted. For purposes of game mechanics, the experience points an entity possesses is considered to be the soul of the entity. Thus an individual with 10,000 x.p. who agrees to sell half of their soul, to be surrendered through use of the soul extraction spell, would be surrendering 5,000 x.p.

The portion of the soul surrendered — the amount xp turned over — is lost to the subject of this spell. Thus an individual with 10,000 x.p. who agrees to sell half of their soul, to be surrendered through use of the soul extraction spell, would be surrendering 5,000 x.p. and then possesses only 5,000 x.p. However, use of this spell does not prevent an individual from advancing and gaining x.p. in the traditional fashion. Extraction of all of a soul results in death.

No mater how much of the soul is extracted from a single individual, it emerges from their mouth as a single unit. The physical form the soul takes is determined by the caster of the spell. The weight of the soul may not exceed 12 grams, nor a liquid volume of 6 ounces, nor more than 5 inches in length in any direction. Common forms include moths, glowing potions, grave worms and luminous vapor and may be stored in a non-magical container. Thus a 5,000 x.p. portion of a soul would be a single moth, glowing potion, grave worm or luminous vapor.

This physical form possesses no mind or personality, is indestructible but may be consumed. The individual whom consumes the soul will then gain that amount of x.p. Thus an individual who consumes the 5,000 x.p. portion of a soul would gain 5,000 x.p. Unless the person is consuming their own soul, this is an act of unmitigated evil. If the portion of the soul consumed was legally obtained, then the entity who consumes it will automatically change alignment to lawful evil, regardless of what their original alignment. If the portion of the soul consumed was not legally obtained, then the entity who consumes it will automatically change alignment to chaotic evil, regardless of what their original alignment. An identify item spell cast on the physical manifestation of a soul will allow the caster to learn from whom the soul came, what portion of their soul they surrender, how much x.p. it is worth.

This spell is available to clerics of evil deities of greed, including but not limited to Mammon.

Contractual Soul Extraction
Conjuration, Evil
Level: Cleric, Sor/Wiz 7.
Components: S, V, M.
Casting Time: 1 standard action.
Range: Special
Target: Self or one sentient mortal entity.
Duration: Permanent.
Saving Throw: None/Will negates.
Spell Resistance: Yes.

This spell is a more sophisticated and powerful version of the soul extraction spell.

Rather than the entire, or a portion of the, soul being extracted when the spell is cast, it will only be extracted when certain contractual conditions, to which both the caster and the subject of the spell agree, are met. These conditions include, but are not limited to; failure to pay off a monetary debt by a specified time, a certain date being reached, death of the subject of the spell, or the subject receiving specified quantity of goods and or services.

The physical manifestation of the soul will automatically appear in a location designated by the caster and agreed to by the subject at the time of the casting.

This spell is available to clerics of evil deities of greed, including but not limited to Mammon. The material component is the contract signed in blood by both the subject and caster of the spell.

Take out the forced alignment shift. If it's a consenual act, it may still be evil, but its certainly less evil. I wouldn't even give it the Evil spell descriptor.

Just being consensual doesn't make it not evil.

"What profiteth a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?"

Nothing, NOTHING should be able to convince someone to give up their soul. The person who is doing the convincing is either lying, threatening, coercing, or otherwise manipulating the victim into agreeing. Just because it's not magically forced doesn't mean it's not forced. We're talking about a person's SOUL here.

Both spells are supposed to evil in design and purpose. Think of them as mechanical game tools for handling Faustian bargains with the Devil, like from the play Faust or from any number of old Twilight Zone episodes.

The existence of a soul in a fantasy setting would have been “proven.” In the real world, lacking magic spells and undead, we take in one faith. In a fantasy setting, the existence of souls is a known fact.

As such, groups – probably evil – would likely treat a soul as just another commodity or resource, like wood or coal or water. Something to be harvested, bottled up and sold off.

I am adding them to the financial sourcebook I am writing. Devils and worshipers of Mammon make wide-use of the spells.
