Try www.fas.org for informaiton on modern military equipment. Also, for thriller stuff, read Tom Clancy. Rainbow Six and Sum of All Fears are both excellent choices, as is Red Rabbit. His non-fiction can give you a good insight into military action, as well, especially men and methods, as well as inspiring NPCs based on real personnell.
