Let's just hope that we don't have another voting fiasco like last year. Because if they come down to meet us, we'll never be able to point them to the correct leader.

Of course, I guess that all depends on how many light years away this place is. Might take centuries for the travel between these two locations.

We will have to wait several days, hoping the SETI can observe the phenomenon more times. Astronomers don't know yet what it is, and prefer to remain prudent. In any case, this signal comes from 1000 light-years away (if it's not any other more mundane problem, such as interferences on the telescope itself).

So, maybe (read MAYBE) some unknown civilization very far away, did play with radio emissions 1000 years ago. However, this was 10 years before they anihilated themselves in a global nuclear war, and 100 years before their planet was destroyed by a Supernova. It's kind of sad, because their women were really cute (I especially like their blob shaped frigianiks).

I find this intriguing and wonder how many tabloids are going to run with it. My first thought though on reading the article, was that if it was aliens, what are the odds of them still being out there now....

There seems to have been a bit of the "telephone game" going on. CNN gives the story simply. The original report in New Scientist has many more qualifiers.

So, it seems a case of "reports of the find were somewhat exaggerated".
