Spaceballs 2

Count me among those excited for this one.
We all know he has plenty of material to work with now... or he could always just do a "Space Balls: Special Edition" ;)

I worry too that it might be bad, but Mr. Brooks is too funny to mess up this time. Blazing Saddles and Men in Tights are some of my favorite comedies, and Spaceballs, while a bit painful to watch now, was once a hoot.

And to think, I almost never watched the movie the first time because I thought it was about Baseball.

Spaceballs rocks.

We watched it today at the BC-Sci fi club. It felt like Rocky Horror, all of us yelling quotes.

Spaceballs rocks, Spaceballs 2 will rock too.

Beyond the ubiquitous feat that sequels suck, I think I'd like to see this. The original Spaceballs still leaves me hooting with laughter, and I bet the sequel will too.

Does that mean Bill Pullman will reprise his starring role?

Gawd, I miss Zuniga. She was a hotty way back when.

I wonder what science fiction movies M.B. would stick it too this time. In the first one he went after Transformers, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek and Star Wars. Am I leaving any out?

In the new one he could go after more Star Trek, the new Star Wars trilogy, the Matrix, and what else?

Will Dark Helmit return?

The original spaceballs was okay, but suffered (like most modern MB Stuff) from too much mugging for the camera in the way the jokes were played out.
I agree with you about the most current MB movies, especially the atrocious Dracula: Dead and Loving It. But I wouldn't place Spaceballs in this category. The concept itself, that we were watching a movie being made "right NOW. No, right NOW..." and the merchandising had already been done, etc., allowed for a certain amount of mugging for the camera. It was a movie and a meta-movie all in one. :)

However, given the track record of Mel's most recent movies, I am a bit nervous about a sequel. Spaceballs was a fantastic movie parody of everything sci-fi, including itself. But Mel's lost some of that magic, and it's hard to say whether he'll be able to do a Spaceballs 2 that isn't overdone.

The irony is that while poking fun at the new Star Wars trilogy, Spaceballs 2 might wind up being the same kind of movie: a bad sequel made years after a brilliant original.

But such a bad actress...

I'm ambivalent about this, Mel's last few movies have sucked quite a bit, but... who knows?
