The Search for More Money!

Updating the 1987 movie to what I see made today will result in junk like the new Marvel or Star Wars stuff. Maybe Brooks is old enough and rich enough to have 'go away' money and make it like his old movies.

Not sure on a title, but I like Spaceballsier

The new history of the world I found pretty bad to be honest, so not sure we really need to drag this old classic out of the sun and its some flashy, hollow new sequel.
That’s my concern as well. The HotW series was really bad. I’m always hopeful because it’s Mel Brooks, but no idea how involved he’ll really be vs how much he just wants a paycheck.

But, considering it’s a Star Wars parody, they could easily lean into that and make it part of the gag.

There was also "Paws of Fury" a couple years ago, an animated samurai homage/remake of Blazing Saddles with anthropomorphic cats and dogs, which he executive produced and voice-acted in.

I don't think it's really about a paycheck. I think it's more about a now 97 year-old man (with a birthday later this month) enjoying doing projects with a bunch of young comedy people who look up to him, which he then gets to promote on the late night talkshow circuit, hosted by people who also idolize him. He is the eminent elder statesman of comedy, and I suspect his contributions to these projects are mostly gracing them with his presence and giving them a stamp of approval. The money's probably nice, but I can't imagine he really feels he needs it.

And yeah, this is probably another crap project, but whatever. These are also all pretty forgettable projects only to be remembered as footnotes to the classics they are attached to. They have no longevity and tarnish no legacies. I, at least, am not concerned about what it will do to "Spaceballs canon".

The only possible reason to make this movie is to actually have a film called Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money.

I saw an article in this and I'm actually pretty hopeful. Seems I might be one of the few that actually enjoyed history of the world part 2 though.
