Spam Posts

A thought: is posting the word 'reported' to these type of threads useful? To me it just seems to bump them to the top of the list. I'd rather not see these; I can find my own p0rn just fine, thanks.
Actually, there is a thread under Meta that specifically states that if someone wants to report spam then they should type reported in a post in the spam thread before reporting it.

It's a easy way to keep lots of users from reporting the same bad post.

Its a big help on the moderator side of things - we need to get reports of spam so we know to delete them, but if we get multiple reports of the same spam, some might slip past us.

OTOH, the new version of the forum software allows for much faster deletion/banning of spam/spammers. And the spam-killer software Mike will be putting in should help even more.

Yes, it is, as others have noted. If the first person to report the spam posts "reported" in th thread, then the second, third, and seventeenth person to see it knows we already have a report, and they can ignore it. Then, we don't end up swimming in reports.

Unless the spammers get wise to such a tactic, but that'd have to be specifically tailored to the site and require two accounts [one to spam, one to fake 'reported'].

I understand a bit more now. I'm more used to 'more reported is better' of the bigger sites (they often use a software algorithm to remove posts).

I still don't like the idea of bumping a spam post but at least I'm willing to accept it if saves you some time.
