Does ENWorld authenticate email addresses?
Yes. Upon registering, you get sent an e-mail to the address you gave and have to click a link on it to activate your account.

Dedicated spammers use public computers and/or spoof IP's. They also use free email accounts for their verification. So calling up the ISP is ineffectual at best and more trouble than it's worth.

The staff has discussed some possible ways to stop this problem, but at the moment we're hardly being flooded so everyone is happy with swatting the spammers as they appear. One solution I've suggested that we may try if this becomes a real problem is blocking users from posting URL's until they've amassed some threshhold - say 30 days as a member and/or a postcount of 50. The drawback to this is that it will annoy new users on the boards.
