Can I cast the Speak with Animals spell to talk with anotehr PC's familiar??

Is the familiar an Animal? (As in, the type. Some familiars may not be Animals)

Does speak with animals allow you to speak with Animals?

If the answer to both of these is yes, then you can speak with it. If it has anything to say to you is a different matter altogether...

Familiars are not Animals, they are magical beasts, so no. However, they are smart and understand Common, so speak with animals might not be exactly necessary.

At a given point in the familiar's progression, it gains the ability to speak with normal animals of its type.

Accordingly, I'd allow someone who can speak to ravens to speak to a familiar who can also speak to ravens (for example).

Here's a question that came up recently in the same vein. Familiars get the benefit of all their master's skills. I presume that means that the familiar can understand and read all the languages spoken by its master?
