For $75 dollars, it better come with errata, dice, a cup holder, and an inflatable extra player for when one of my regular's don't show! It better also tell me what rule I'm using incorrect while I'm doing it and pre-gen its own adventures.

LOL!

The books have been read, & the library is closed!

Or maybe, just MAYBE, there is more than one demographic that is being targeted by WoTC.

I for one will buy it. Not because I feel compelled to buy everything that comes out of WoTC's shop, but because I think it is cool.

I dont give a stack of rat poo if it is ever 'worth something'. I just think it sounds like a cool concept, possibly even something that I can use as a prop. If not, well so what. It's $75. I realize that is a lot of money for some people, and at the risk of sounding like a degenerate snob, it's just a drop in the bucket for others. Which, I might add is why these kind of things get printed in limited quantities. Because not everyone will want or can afford them.

So, quit acting like everything they publish is a force fed decision getting rammed down your throats. Vote with your dollar, not your mouth.

On a serious note, I'm NOT paying $75 for it nomatter what. Errata be damned, I can play with my slightly incorrect rules and be happy with it. The game design notes, while interesting, combined with the leather binder still amounts to nothing.

Well that's why I used the comic book reference, because the same bit happened there...

Well, there's still problems with the analogy, in that the comic books that have been "collectorized", still aren't really that old.

And slight correction, it isn't if fewer are sold, that they become more worthwhile. It's the number produced.

Technically, it's really the rarity of the item after much time has passed that matters. That is related both to the number produced and the number sold. However, I note that if they produce 1,000 of these books, and sell none of them, and they all sit in a single protected vault for 50 years, they won't be seen as particularly valuable. If that same number goes out into the world, and survive the trials, tribulations, and risks of being in circulation, they'll be worth more.

Similar to postage stamps, actually. Last I checked, a stamp that was bought, collected, and never used is seen as less valuable as one that actually got put on a letter and put through the mail.

Interesting. I hadn't seen anyone here act like they were being forced to buy this; in fact, the majority seem to be voicing their freedom NOT to buy it -- you know, by voting with their dollar.

Maybe, just maybe, you could voice an opinion without insulting others for having um... voiced an opinion.

I cannot believe WotC would jump on the "collector's edition" bandwagon. I make no apology to those that offers an expensive "collector's edition" RPG books and the gullibles that buy them, but this is a joke.

It's a lot better if you just upgrade the package of the standard editions, perhaps including cloth bookmark strips sewn into the spine.

While I don't buy such a thing (in response to the force-feeding statement), I can't help but question WotC's business decision to do it. Are there that many gullibles in our very own global D&D community willing to buy and WotC can profit from it?

It is not a gullibility issue. Some of us like having a very nicely bound edition of our favorite games sitting on our shelves. That is why I have the RIFTS, D20 Ravenloft, Shadowrun, and other such "special edition" books. I do not buy them with any intention of using them. However, $75.00 is a bit much to have sitting on my shelves to look pretty. If I ever find it for $50 or less I will get it. Otherwise it isn't as if my world will end if i never get it.

Man, maybe I better buy that Arduin book!
